DISCIPLESHIP PROCESS
INTENTION
To pursue and develop our relationship with Christ so that we know Him and can imitate Him as much as possible.
FOUNDATIONAL PRINCIPLES OF BEING DISCIPLED
- Surrender your will, personal agenda, and desire for reward.
- Initiate interaction with the one who is teaching you.
- Become vulnerable and accountable to like-gendered mentors.
- Develop a Spiritual Routine of reading the Bible, talking to God (prayer) and serving others.
- Trust God’s Process and Timing. God is not limited to geography or a clock.
NON-NEGOTIABLE PRINCIPLES OF CHRISTIAN LIVING
- Secure a saving relationship with Christ through the surrendering of our lives to Him as our Lord and Savior.
- Be baptized.
- Pray and confess our sins to God daily.
- Read the Bible daily. Memorize key portions.
- Discipline our Mouths.
- Keep sex inside of marriage. Moral purity.
- Witness. Tell others what Christ has done for you.
- Please God, rather than men, by serving others.
DAILY DISCIPLINES
HOME – that increases your quality of life at home.
- Respect all authorities (including parents), be an example to all family.
- Ask what you can DO for others instead of asking FOR things.
- Clean up after yourself.
- Practice saying “Please” and “Thank You”.
- POLICE YOURSELF. Do what’s right when no one’s watching.
- Be HONEST. When wrong – admit it.
PERSONAL – that make you TRULY successful before God.
- Spend time with God first – Organize what you pray about and read about.
- Go to BED according to an established routine.
- Choose to be home rather than “out” at night as much as possible.
- Always act with URGENCY, whenever asked to do something.
- SCHEDULE what you want to do each day.
- Be PUNCTUAL, by being a little early. (Being “on time” is too late)
- Be DEPENDABLE. Be an honest man, a man of your word.
- Be GRATEFUL. Every act of kindness shown you, give thanks
- Take Care of yourself. Expect no service from no one. Expect to care for others.
BE A STUDENT – increase your productivity.
1. Establish an efficient device/method to store information and have it readily available (including notebooks, recorders, pc’s, phones)
2. Sit/stand near the front of a group when being instructed. Eliminate distractions.
3. Collect additional information on your own (research, obtain/view video, interview peers, mentors, authority figures) for all areas of life. (i.e. A-Rod, Lebron sought out Warren Buffet for advice.) Make sure your key information can be transported with you easily.
4. Ask questions. (who, what, why, when, where and how questions)
5. Observe the kind of people that you want to become and learn how they did it.
HANDLING CONFLICT - so that your life is not at risk!
1. Prov. 15:1 – Don’t fight. “A gentle answer turns away anger”.
2. Prov. 12:1 – Love discipline. “He who hates correction is stupid.”
3. Gal. 1:10 - When in doubt, please God exclusively. Do so with obedient behavior.
4. Eph. 6:12 – Be patient. Our fight isn’t really with other people!
God wants to bless us and provide eternal life. His adversary (Satan) wants to rob us, destroy us,
and have us suffer with him. Fight the spiritual battle – not other people.
5. Prov. 17:28 – Control what you say. “Even a fool is thought wise if he is silent.”
6. WITH COACHES/AUTHORITY - Write out your concerns, your concessions, and your solution.
Practice communicating these exact thoughts with a personal meeting, offering your
concessions first.
PROVIDE THE SOLUTION TO THE CONFLICT, DON’T ADD TO IT.
